WHO

The Design Board was founded in 2009 with the aspiration of creating inspirational architecture for everyone, everywhere.
For 15 years the practice has developed a reputation to deliver unique, creative and interesting designs in towns, cities, the countryside and along the coast, for a multitude of amazing people.
As a friendly team, dedicated to the clients ambitions, punctilious consideration is always given to the design brief to produce striking architecture and spectacular spaces based on the fundamental requirements.
Every project is solely looked after by an individual member of the team, who in turn, dedicates their time to nurture the design. This allows the client direct communication with this member and through shared imagination, ideas are collated to produce an exceptional finish.

ETHOS

In a World where it has become the trend to throw away and get the new best thing, our Architecture works in the complete opposite manner, where the pivotal objective is to promote sustainable development. We thrive on revitalising buildings to upgrade or change their use to maximise their purpose and performance, finishing with a magnificent appearance.

With the new buildings that we design, we specify products and materials that will not only look spectacular, but will also stand the test of time. When that end occurs, they can be safely removed, recycled or disposed of with minimal impact on our environment.

We aim to incorporate as much natural light within our designs as possible to improve the occupants well being and reduce the length of time we use artificial lighting. It is our focus to provide exciting spaces that encourage socialising and allow for the natural flow of circulation.
With the continuation of technological advances, we are constantly forwarding ourselves and the Practice by researching, investigating and testing to improve the progression of our designs.

At the heart of all our works, is the client. Their ideas and aspirations allow us the opportunity to produce unique forms of Architecture throughout the area.

PROCESS

Our projects generally follow a standard format which allows the development to flow fluently. This starts with an initial meeting where we identify the requirements of the client to create a design brief.
We define how the end user will utilise the space and consider the future changes that may effect the design.
Using a modular process with stages of work allows our clients to understand exactly where they are throughout their project and through open dialogue we welcome discussion at any time, no matter how small the detail.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Having consulted with three separate Dorset based architectural practices we chose ‘Paul Glanville and The Design Board (TDB) to advise and oversee all architectural elements of our project, to modernise and extend our existing family property.
This included adding a second storey, while making substantial changes to the layout and appearance to a much loved and familiar family home. Paul’s advice and guidance were crucial in realising the much anticipated potential of the property, including suggesting alternative and complementary design options for our consideration.
The whole TDB service experience was extremely professional and friendly, with Paul being approachable and available throughout all stages, providing guidance and assurance right from concept through to securing planning permission with East Dorset Council on first submission.
We have now completed our project, moving back to our new and improved home in April 2021 and are extremely pleased with the final results.
We both highly recommend Paul and TDB practice in all respects

We started planning a major extension/refurbishment of our home in 2015 and the project completed very successfully in the summer of 2016. Although we had some good ideas, we were not sure exactly what we wanted to do and what was allowed. We met with a number of local Architectural Practices, Paul at THE DESIGN BOARD was by far the best, full of great ideas, very engaging and enthusiastic about our plans.
We were delighted to work with Paul throughout the nine months that the project ran for. He arranged all the planning consents necessary, liaised with the builders and consultants whenever required. All was completed in a very efficient way so the work proceeded without any hitches at all! In addition Paul was always friendly, helpful and supportive throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed working with him and can not recommend him highly enough.

As Project Managers, Building Surveyors and Designers, THE DESIGN BOARD has been working with us on a number of detailed designs for Planning, Building Regulations and Tendering producing design and working drawings to a high standard. Paul has also produced a number of 3D visuals for projects which have proven invaluable for our clients and their advisors. We were recommended to approach Paul to work as a consultant to our busy design team. We have been pleased with the proactive and personal approach he has taken to each project.

Paul was recommended to us by a friend as he had done some work with them and we were not disappointed. From the start Paul has been great support to us, especially as both myself and my husband have no contacts in the building trade. His design ideas were exactly what we were looking for and he has great attention for detail. He also identified things we hadn’t even thought about. We found his help invaluable and will certainly use him again for any future works.
